Version 5010 refers to a set of electronic transaction standards that comply with HIPAA regulations - and starting January 1, 2012 all HIPAA covered healthcare organizations have been required to comply with these standards. Any electronic transactions that do not use Version 5010 will be rejected for a failure to meet HIPAA compliance standards.
